Magic Mill Meat Grinder – Awesome for the money!!!!
UPDATE 07/19/16: I washed parts in the dishwasher. 🙁 The listing wasn’t super clear about not being able to wash them at all in the dishwasher and I did…. and they turned out tarnished. So….. I’m very happy to say that the company sent new parts immediately. I just had to contact them via the contact us link on amazon – and they were SUPER HELPFUL!!!! They’ve revised their listing to make sure people understand to HAND WASH ONLY!!!!!!!
Just don’t use the dishwasher and this is an INCREDIBLE machine for the money…………..!!!!!! You won’t be sorry buying it!!!!!! (plus great customer service!!!!)
Original Review:
Ahhh, Meat Grinders. Magical machines that transform whole pieces of meat into patties, links, loose bulk meat, etc. They’re wonderful kitchen tools. However many problems plague typical meat grinders.. namely sufficient power to cut through which dictates the speed with which you can complete the project. They sent me this unit for free or highly discounted in exchange for my unbiased and honest review.
I love to BBQ. I love to cook. I have a small hand crank meat grinder that I thought this Magic Mill Meat Grinder would be a huge upgrade. And it was by far! The instructions were pretty darn clear on how to assemble it — so I won’t go into details, but sufficed to say that it’s really simple. Pieces lock together wonderfully and it feels very sturdy!
I cut up my meat into small-ish (1″ – 2 ” cubes/chunks) and put them into a metal bowl for seasoning. Keep in mind the meat should be COLD. Do not try and grind room temperature meat. it won’t work well. For my sausage, I added kosher salt, black pepper, fennel seed, garlic powder, and parsley flakes. Also — this is what I didn’t do, but you really should: ADD A LITTLE LIQUID!!! you can add beer, water, white wine, whatever you want. Just a little. Again, I didn’t but the Magic Mill had PLENTY OF POWER to grind it up with ease. I realized it halfway through the grinding…. but at that point, I just kept going.
The sausage came out pretty quickly, I ended up grinding just over 5 lbs. in 10 minutes, tops. There was more time spent prepping the meat and getting everything ready…. The grinder definitely works great!!!
I used a burger press to form the loose sausage into patties, and a little wax paper in between them — it worked perfectly!
I love this meat grinder – HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!! (just wash the parts by hand!! 🙂 as I found out…)
