Watercolor painting is extremely old, dating perhaps to the cave paintings of paleolithic Europe, and has been used for manuscript illustration since at least Egyptian times but especially in the European Middle Ages. That’s what wikipedia says about watercolor.  To me though, it’s almost like a stained glass – translucent and beautiful.  I have a hard time describing it to someone, but the look is absolutely priceless.  And painting is fun to do.  Kids LOVE it as you can see.
